As we are entering the Festive Season and days are getting shorter and
colder, everyone wishes to stay in and enjoy the warmth of a home. Before
that, why not coming to the French Library to make provisions of novels,
comics, magazines, records and films for the long Winter nights. You can
also pick up some ideas and expand your Christmas wishlist during our
"Christmas Special" on December 9th, a family event that will feature games,
storytelling, apps and other digital discoveries, plus arts &crafts for your
Christmas tree!
Our monthly Cinéclub will give way this month to a free Christmas screening
of 8 femmes by François Ozon as a tribute to the immense actress
Danielle Darrieux, recently departed. Bring your best Christmas Jumper for
this creaky musical and crime film, starring eight of the all-time best
French actresses!
Merry Christmas to you all from the French Library team & everyone at the

Compagnie Mascarille-Manuel
and
MGMusique
invite you to a musical wander – a
musardise as Edmond Rostand would say – in the company
of authors and poets
who don’t take themselves seriously and who play around with the French
language: Victor Hugo, Raymond Devos,
Serge Gainsbourg, Boris Vian,
Georges Brassens, Charles
Trenet and more!
French actress, singer and
stage director Marie-Silvia Manuel will lead us
in this poetic and humorous journey, accompanied by
musician, composer and conductor Marc Goldfeder on
piano. This performance in French for all ages
shows that one can be light and deep
at the same time, funny and coherent,
humorous and dark.

As an ageing Calais construction magnate passes the reins of the family business to
his daughter, a series of increasingly sinister events soon conspire to unravel the
wealthy clan’s cosseted existence.
A coolly observed study of familial
dysfunction featuring an all-star cast (Isabelle Huppert, Jean-Louis
Trintignant, Mathieu Kassovitz, Toby Jones), Michael Haneke’s follow-up (and in some respects sequel to
Amour) has all of the stylistic
traits we have come to expect from this master filmmaker.

"Human" by
Yann Arthus-Bertrand |
|
Christmas Special
at the French Library |
Thursday 7 December – 6pm
Admission free

World Vision Ireland
& the
Alliance Française present the screening of Yann Arthus-Bertrand's “Human”
in support of
Human Rights Day. In an ever more
divided society, where inhumane
conflicts and crises are unfolding before
our eyes, could a solution be found by
exploring what it means to be human?
Could it help strengthen the unity of
our vision and action?
"Human"
is a collection of stories full of love,
happiness, hatred and violence. From stories
of everyday experiences to accounts
of the most unbelievable lives, these
poignant encounters share a rare
sincerity and underline what is
universal.
The screening will be followed by a
discussion in the French Library and
a small reception at the Buswells
Hotel.
