My name is Cyrielle, having recently joined the AF team as Exams Officer, my mission will be to promote and develop French certifications in Ireland. Nowadays, a diploma in a foreign language can open doors to a wide range of career options and further educational opportunities worldwide. The Halloween Term is open to both former and new students. General French courses, conversation courses, cultural workshops business French, legal French and preparation for exams for adults, teenagers', children's and toddlers' courses are available all day from Monday to Saturday.

Assessments are free of charge and no appointment is required. You don't need an assessment if you are a complete beginner or if you are already a student with the Alliance, you can enrol directly online.

The EUNIC Ireland cluster is pleased to invite you to the screening of seven short films presented by the Alliance Francaise, the Austrian Embassy, the British Council, the Embassy of Greece, the Goethe-Institut, the Instituto Cervantes, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the Embassy of Romania and the Romanian Cultural Institute.

Come and vote for your favorite film and try your luck at winning a special prize! The short films will also be presented at the Cork Film Festival Saturday 8 November at 5pm in the Gate Cinema.

Commemorations of the Centenary of the Great War are well under way but what perspectives are emerging?
Why do they vary from country to country?
And are they adequate for portraying the real nature of a war that was global rather than national?

Pr John Horne (Director of the Centre for War Studies, Department of History, Trinity College) will address these questions and debate them with the audience.

The Alliance Française supports the Instituto Cervantes initiative to commemorate the centenary of Platero and I, written by Juan Ramon Rimenez in 1914. What better way to celebrate than a literary reading of this work, with its poetic prose about this universal little donkey, his author and his homeland, in almost 30 languages!
The extract L’été will be read in French by Dominique Le Meur. The text will be projected in English to help attendees to follow the reading at all times.

We celebrate as every year the arrival of the famous red wine made from the Gamay grape produced in the Beaujolais region of France. Beaujolais Nouveau is the most well-known vin de primeur, for sale on the third Thursday of each November. You will taste the first wine of the season, accompanied by a plate of cheese and charcuterie in a very French and convivial athmosphere.

Our guest of honour, Patrick Thévenet, wine producer from the Domaine des Gandelins, will present and explain all that you need to know about wine-tasting.
Entry includes a plate of charcuterie and cheese with a glass of Beaujolais Nouveau.

After their Cannes-selected first collaboration Copacabana, Marc Fitoussi reunites with Isabelle Hupert in La Ritournelle (Paris Follies) for a bittersweet melodrama.

The French actress plays Brigitte, a woman farming cattle in Normandy with her husband Xavier (Jean-Pierre Daroussin). Xavier is a down-to-earth man, but Brigitte is a dreamer who decides to leave the fields behind and leave for Paris one day when the routine of her life overwhelms her. Will Xavier manage to keep hold of his wife? How does one reinvent oneself after so many years of Ritournelle?

The French Film Project is a partnership between the French Embassy in Ireland, the Irish Film Institute and the Arts Council, which includes an annual touring of a movie in French language along with a study guide.
The chosen film for this year’s French Film Project is Populaire, a 2012 French romantic comedy film directed by Régis Roinsard and starring Romain Duris and Déborah François.
The Populaire Study Guide, launched at the FTA Annual Conference in October, is now available at the Alliance Française Library or for for free download here.
The film will be touring in various venues in Ireland as part of the 2014 IFI Education programme.
