Commemorations of the Centenary of the Great
War are well under way but what perspectives
are emerging?
Why do they vary from country to country?
And are they adequate for portraying the real
nature of a war that was global rather than
national?
Pr John Horne (Director of the Centre for
War Studies, Department of History, Trinity
College) will address these questions and debate
them with the audience.

The
Alliance Française supports the
Instituto Cervantes
initiative to commemorate the centenary of
Platero and I, written by Juan Ramon
Rimenez in 1914. What better way to
celebrate than a literary reading of this work,
with its poetic prose about this universal
little donkey, his author and his homeland, in
almost 30 languages!
The extract L’été will be read in
French by Dominique Le Meur. The text
will be projected in English to help attendees
